There’s a new kid in town over at the Hoults Yard in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.
London-based ThingCo has expanded ahead of the launch of its telematics device later this year – opening a state-of-the-art technology centre from where its smart First Notification of Loss (FNOL) process will operate. Back in April the insurtech was looking for a software developer to join the growing team in the upcoming office… now the Newcastle site is up and running.
“The ThingCo technology centre is essentially the nerve centre of our business, providing the hub for all the services we will deliver powered by the data from our next-generation telematics device,” explained ThingCo chief technology officer Jonathan Valentine.
From the new location, ThingCo’s tech team will leverage real-time driving data to support customers through channels including text-based chatbots and the firm’s app.
Established by insurethebox founder Mike Brockman, the start-up operates serverless by tapping the cloud provided by Amazon Web Services. Its telematics devices, which feature Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and intelligent voice, will be supplied by tech firm CarVi.
The units will be available to motorists in November.
“The opening of our technology centre in Newcastle is a significant step in our progress towards launch,” noted Valentine. “Sitting within the Hoults Yard, on the outskirts of business hub Ouseburn, we will be neighbour to over 100 other businesses within the technology, digital, creative, and industrial industries who all share the same entrepreneurial appetite.
“This will help us recruit the best talent and build a team who will focus on developing everything from advancing our website to creating code for the device to detect car crashes.”
