History

Rothbury is a majority New Zealand-owned company that was founded in 1950, and currently employs over 200 staff in offices across the country. The group was founded with the objective of responding to personal and business protection needs as they evolve, offering advice and creating tailored insurance solutions.

“We aim to be your unconditional advocate,” Rothbury states. “We put you first. Our clients are the reason we are here and our team, spread throughout the country, puts its collective energies into ensuring that you, as a client, get exactly what you need to protect the things that you most value.”

Rothbury is the founding New Zealand member of the Steadfast broking network, having become a member in 2013 to access the strength and opportunities presented by contact with Australasian brokers. Steadfast is currently the largest broker network in Australia, representing over 340 brokerages and over a million businesses.

Areas of business

Rothbury offers policy advice across all areas of business and personal insurance, and also specialises in tailoring insurance to the risks of a broad range of specific industry sectors.

Its business insurance offering includes all the standard protection required by both small and large businesses; this includes every type of liability cover, professional indemnity cover and business interruption insurance.

Its specialist industry expertise encompasses a huge range of sectors; psychologists and psychotherapists, childcare centres, photographers and master painters being just some examples. The group also offers an all-in-one business package, which includes a number of cover options for damage, business interruption, liability and vehicle-related risks.

Rothbury’s personal lines include home and contents, motor vehicle, boat and travel insurance, and the brokerage also offers a comprehensive suite of life and health cover for both individuals and businesses.

KiwiSaver advice is another key area of business along with everything mortgage-related; this includes home loans, property investing and commercial and rural loans.

Rothbury Group businesses

The Rothbury group includes a number of businesses which provide insurance solutions complementary to the group’s main advice offering. Key subsidiary companies include the following:

Go Cover Car Insurance: Founded in 1998 as Mobile Insurance Consultants, the company offers cover for clients who sell new and used vehicles, or arrange finance. It is a motor vehicle underwriting agency, and offers comprehensive cover immediately.

Covi NZMCA Insurance: A specialist motor home and caravan insurance provider, the company offers support to the New Zealand Motorcaravan Association (NZMCA). Covi has contributed over $2.6 million to the NZMCA over the last five years, which has helped the organisation provide various membership benefits such as access to NZMCA parks, a NZMCA travel directory, and has helped fund the legal battle to allow members to freedom camp.

IBT Swift: Specialises in software specifically for insurance brokers, providing tools to run the core functions of an insurance broking system. It is best suited to broking companies with 8+ users and a $3m+ premium income, and allows businesses to be run from multiple locations while keeping the data within one system.

Community activities

Rothbury is associated with a number of local organisations across New Zealand, its partnerships including sports associations, charities and healthcare providers. The Mangonui Volunteer Fire Brigade, Hospice NZ, Asthma & Respiratory Management and Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service are just some of the organisations that Rothbury is associated with.
