RAA has selected Duck Creek Technologies to implement a new cloud-based core insurance platform, replacing its legacy on-premise systems for home and motor insurance.
The agreement sees RAA adopt Duck Creek’s full suite of SaaS offerings, including modules for policy, billing, claims, rating, and analytics, delivered via the Duck Creek OnDemand platform. The shift is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and supporting more agile product delivery.
The technology upgrade comes at a time when insurers globally are reassessing their digital capabilities. According to ACORD’s 2025 Insurance Digital Maturity Study, only about 25% of insurers have fully digitalised operations. Over half of those surveyed are still in the evaluation phase of adopting digital tools.
RAA chief technology officer James Galdes said the organisation’s growth and changing customer expectations made modernisation a priority.
“As South Australia’s largest personal lines insurer, our members’ needs and expectations are continually evolving, and we require a more flexible, nimble, and sustainable insurance delivery platform. We’ve found this with Duck Creek Technologies. Their future-proof SaaS core insurance delivery technology will help us unlock efficiencies and uplift our staff and members’ experiences now and into the future,” he said.
The transition to a SaaS model is also intended to streamline compliance and reduce infrastructure-related overheads.
“Duck Creek’s cloud-native SaaS will help reduce our data centre footprint while improving scalability and availability. It will simplify regulatory compliance, thanks to the platform’s security that’s been built for the Australian context. The fortnightly silent updates through active delivery will eliminate disruptive upgrades and costly downtime. This means we can focus more on delivering coverage, confidence, value, and greater member experiences and focus less on technology,” Galdes said.
The new platform will also enable RAA to bring products to market more quickly and support a more integrated digital user experience across its insurance portfolio, which serves over 825,000 members in South Australia.
Christian Erickson, Duck Creek Technologies managing director for Asia Pacific, said RAA’s plans for innovation were a key factor in the partnership.
“RAA has a big vision and high expectations and will be pushing the boundaries of innovation and possibilities. We’re looking forward to the challenge of supporting and enabling this,” he said.
RAA selected Duck Creek following a market review led by Deloitte and Gartner. The insurer cited the platform’s local support, modular design, and pre-configured integration options as core advantages.
The announcement follows RAA’s recently disclosed long-term partnership with Allianz Australia. Under that agreement, Allianz will manage underwriting, pricing, claims, and product design, while RAA will continue to focus on distribution and brand engagement.
