Seasoned industry leader Fintan Thornton has moved from the superannuation industry to the private health insurance industry by taking on the role of chief member solutions officer at CBHS Health Fund.

Thornton was the head of institutional solutions at Allianz Retire+, where he established the company's institutional business, Group Retirement Solutions. He led the development of the company's partnerships and institutional solution design, focusing on the retirement income sector of the Australian superannuation industry.

Moving to the private health insurance industry, Thornton will lead CBHS Health Fund's Member Solutions division – a team of product, marketing, and sales and partnership experts who provide members with access to the best health education, engagement, products, and services. He will also lead the international business portfolio, which provides workers from overseas and student visitors with health insurance coverage.

In a LinkedIn post, Thornton said he looks forward to taking an exciting challenge in the Australian health insurance industry.

“After three years establishing the institutional business for Allianz Retire+, I'm privileged to be asked to take on an exciting new challenge in the health insurance sector. Whilst it was a tough decision to move away from the superannuation sector, I'd like to thank everyone who helped and supported me during my time at Allianz,” he said.

Thornton has a long-standing relationship with CBHS Health Fund, having served as its non-executive director for 11 years. During his time on the board, he was a member of the Risk Committee, chair of the Audit Committee, and chair of the Asset & Liability Committee. He also took on the role of deputy chair of the board in 2022.

Thornton joined CBHS Health Fund from Allianz Retire+ after the latter appointed a new head of technical services, a newly created role.
