The Underwriting Agencies Council (UAC) has expanded its membership, welcoming SHBR Group as a new business service member.

The addition brings SHBR Group’s expertise in insurance-related building services to UAC’s network, supporting insurers across New South Wales in managing claims for residential and commercial properties.

SHBR Group

With more than 30 years of industry experience, SHBR Group specialises in claims management services such as assessing, estimating, scoping, quoting, and remedial building and repair work.

The company supports insurers in responding to claims arising from events including fire, storm, flood, impact, and malicious damage. Its offerings include causation reports, policy determinations, and property repairs.

The group provides 24/7 emergency make-safe services and handles repairs ranging from minor property issues to significant structural losses.

SHBR Group’s additional capabilities include leak and roof assessments, emergency plumbing and electrical repairs, fire and water restoration services, and rectification of building defects. The company also offers in-house joinery and waterproof membrane rectification.

Australasia Underwriting’s new head of casualty

The addition of UAC’s new business service member follows the appointment of Steve Ross as the new head of casualty at Australasia Underwriting (AUPL).

In his new role, Ross oversees the liability class and leads its strategic development, bringing decades of underwriting experience in casualty and financial lines to the role.

AUPL managing director Alan Mackay noted the significance of Ross’s appointment for the agency’s growth strategy.

“Harnessing expert underwriting, and giving our brokers immediate access to that, is a fundamental component of our proposition. It’s what makes us different. Steve shares that ethos, and we look forward to his contribution to the leadership team,” he said.

Commenting on his new role, Ross stated that his decision to join AUPL was driven by the company’s focus on innovative solutions and sustainable growth.

“I’m excited to join a business that aligns with my values of how to do business. I was attracted to the role due to AUPL’s solutions-first approach and desire for innovation to meet the changing needs of its customers,” he said.

He encourages brokers who have not yet engaged with AUPL to explore what the organisation could provide.
