The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) will co-host the inaugural National Industry Roundtable: Land Use Planning and Resilience to help make homes more resilient to extreme weather events.
To be held on July 27, 2023, the roundtable will see the ICA co-host discussions with industry groups and government representatives to re-think the approach to building homes, including ending the development of homes on floodplains without considering the risks.
Master Builders Australia (MBA) and the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) are working with the ICA on the event.
In a recent statement, the ICA emphasised that thousands of people buy homes in areas unsuitable for development every year, making them vulnerable to extreme weather events.
The roundtable aims to call against building homes in areas with unsuitable environments to make homes more resilient to extreme weather events. It coincides with a meeting of state and federal planning ministers on land use planning.
The roundtable will be held at The Amora Hotel Jamison Sydney, 11 Jamison Street – Level 2, at 1:30pm on July 27, 2023.
