ICA zones in on planning and resilience

Catastrophe & Flood

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) will co-host the inaugural National Industry Roundtable: Land Use Planning and Resilience to help make homes more resilient to extreme weather events.

Master Builders Australia (MBA) and the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) are working with the ICA on the event.

Boosting homes' resilience to extreme weather events

In a recent statement, the ICA emphasised that thousands of people buy homes in areas unsuitable for development every year, making them vulnerable to extreme weather events.

The roundtable aims to call against building homes in areas with unsuitable environments to make homes more resilient to extreme weather events. It coincides with a meeting of state and federal planning ministers on land use planning.

The roundtable will be held at The Amora Hotel Jamison Sydney, 11 Jamison Street – Level 2, at 1:30pm on July 27, 2023.

The spokespeople include:

  • Andrew Hall, CEO of ICA;
  • Denita Wawn, CEO of MBA;
  • Matt Collins, CEO of PIA; and
  • Clr Linda Scott, president of Australian Local Government Association.

Earlier this month, a federal parliamentary inquiry was launched into insurer responses to people's claims following the devastating floods in November 2022.
