Zurich has announced two new hires for its marine business in a bid to strengthen its presence in the market.
The international insurer has announced that Iain Sharples will join the business as national manager, marine and transport liability and will lead the liability and logistics proposition in both Australia and New Zealand.
The move comes as the business also announced that Allwyn D’Sousa has also joined the marine practice as a senior marine claims advisor and will provide technical leadership for the marine claims proposition of the business.
Head of property, engineering and marine at Zurich, Matthew O’Sullivan, said the two new hires show the commitment of the business to the marine market as they look to corner the marine logistics and technical claims service markets.
“We are delighted to attract top talent to benefit our brokers and customers with their experience and knowledge of the industry,” O’Sullivan said.
“Iain and Allwyn will play key roles in delivering market leading marine solutions to our brokers and their customers.”
Sharples brings more than two decades worth of experience to Zurich and has worked over claims and underwriting whilst D’Sousa brings 20 years of marine claims experience to the role having also served 15 years at sea as a master mariner in the Merchant Navy.
D’Sousa joined the business on March 1 and Sharples will begin his new role on 12 April.
