A leading insurtech event has returned to Sydney today with over 200 attendees gathered to hear from some of the industry’s most prominent figures.
Ashok Nair, chief data officer at QBE, took to the stage this morning to discuss how the incumbent is leveraging insurtech to drive business value and improve internal capabilities.
One of his key messages was to question the theory that insurtechs are necessarily disrupters.
“That term, disrupter, has done a lot of damage,” he told the audience. “Why can’t insurtech be collaborative?”
While Nair urged those gathered to pursue collaborative insurtech opportunities he did also have a warning for those exploring the area
“New tech does not equal great results – collaboration does,” he warned. “I don’t have to tell you this, I’m sure everyone knows, but that’s hard to do. It’s like strategy, it’s easy to come up with but execution is key.”
More coverage of the 2019 Insurtech Summit will be available on Insurance Business tomorrow.
