Unexpected events like multi-vehicle collisions, dog bites, or injuries to delivery personnel on private property are increasingly jeopardizing the financial stability of Oklahomans, according to Mercury Insurance, which reports that bodily injury payouts have surged since the COVID-19 pandemic’s onset, with liability claim averages rising by 35%.
This trend of escalating liability injury claims has prompted Mercury to introduce a new personal umbrella insurance policy in Oklahoma. The policy offers enhanced coverage starting at under $1 a day, providing extra protection for home and auto owners.
Oklahoma marks the third state where Mercury has launched this expanded insurance product, following California and Texas.
Brandt Minnich, vice president and chief sales development officer at Mercury, noted: “Unexpected accidents are becoming more costly for Oklahomans, which puts them at risk of having to pay out of pocket.
“Mercury has redesigned its umbrella insurance to give Oklahoma an extra layer of protection beyond a traditional auto or home policy. It’s an affordable safety net that protects you from these expensive accidents and litigious lawyers looking for a big payday.”
The updated umbrella policy offers several key features, including multi-policy discounts, a three-year accident and violation-free discount, uninsured motorist coverage, and increased liability cover.
“We consider Mercury’s umbrella policy the ‘Goldilocks’ of coverage because it offers a very specific amount of extra protection that fits customers’ needs, which is really important for anyone who wants to safeguard their future against unexpected expenses and legal liabilities,” Minnich said.
Mercury’s various insurance products in Oklahoma include personal auto, mechanical protection, ride-hailing, condo, homeowners’, home cyber protection, home systems protection, identity management services, renters’, service line protection, business auto, and personal umbrella insurance.
Based in Los Angeles, Mercury provides auto, homeowners’, and business insurance through a workforce of over 4,700 people and more than 8,000 independent agents across 11 states.
