Markel, the insurance operations within the Markel Group, has announced several leadership appointments within its Markel Specialty division.
The newly appointed leaders at Markel Specialty are as follows:
Alison Burgess has been named retail regional president, East. With over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, Burgess has been with Markel since 2012. She previously served as Northeast regional president, overseeing the growth and development of relationships in both wholesale and retail distribution channels.
Vince Colosimo assumes the role of managing executive, construction. Colosimo, who joined Markel in 2012, brings more than two decades of industry expertise. As the former managing director of the construction practice, he led Markel's complex construction team. In his new capacity, Colosimo will drive product line growth across retail and wholesale channels, establishing a construction industry practice within Markel Specialty.
Matt Huels has been appointed as retail regional president, West. With over 20 years in the insurance sector, Huels has been a part of Markel since 2015. As the former executive underwriting officer, he was responsible for overseeing all products within Markel's small commercial segment. In his new role, Huels will focus on Markel's expansion in the retail space.
Tim Pasik takes on the position of wholesale regional president, Northeast. Pasik joined Markel in 2014, bringing nearly four decades of insurance industry experience. His previous role as managing director and commercial casualty product lines leader involved overseeing Markel's commercial primary and excess casualty product lines. In his new capacity, Pasik will drive the growth of Markel's wholesale business in the Northeast region.
Mark Schauss has been named executive underwriting officer, small commercial. Having been with Markel since 2006, Schauss boasts over 15 years of industry experience. His previous role as managing director of underwriting for P&C binding authority allowed him to underwrite a wide range of coverages, including general liability, property, auto, inland marine, and excess liability.
“Our top priority is to continuously strengthen our ability to deliver solutions and services to the marketplace, and the people appointed to these leadership roles are well qualified to do that,” said Bryan Sanders, president of Markel Specialty. “All these leaders have the extensive industry knowledge and expertise required to grow our business, best serve our customers' needs, and deepen our relationships with distribution partners. They will continue advancing Markel's position as a leading global specialty insurer.”
Markel Corporation also recently appointed Amandeep Dhillon as managing director and global head of catastrophe and exposure management, as well as Richie Henry as head of North American claims operations.
