Despite the rapidly rising cost of living in the UK, more than three out of five (61%) of brokers said they still intend to donate to charitable causes, a survey by Ecclesiastical Insurance and the Benefact Group found.
However, 11% said they plan to reduce the amount of money they give this year, while 29% are undecided.
Brokers are more likely to be charitable than the average Briton, with only 44% of the public saying they still intend to donate to charitable causes despite the cost-of-living crisis.
The survey also found that brokers are more likely to support a local charity rather than a national or international one.
Earlier this year, Ecclesiastical published research that found making a positive contribution to society is a priority for 55% of brokers, with supporting a charity the top way to do this.
These findings were revealed alongside Ecclesiastical Insurance and the Benefact Group’s announcement of the 250 UK charities that will each receive donations of £1,000 as part of the Movement for Good Awards. Now in its fourth year, the awards will donate £1 million to charities nominated by brokers and members of the public.
According to Ecclesiastical and Benefact, more than 500 brokers have voted for charities so far. In total, more than 104,000 people around the UK have supported the Movement for Good awards, with over 7,250 charitable causes receiving votes. The 250 winning charities were picked at random from those nominated, with a further 250 winners to be selected in September.
“We would like to thank every single person who took the time to nominate a good cause as part of our Movement for Good Awards,” said Mark Hews, chief executive of Benefact Group. “Benefact Group is the fourth-largest corporate donor in the UK and has an ambition to be the biggest. Owned by a charity, all of its available profits go to good causes, and the more the group grows, the more the group can give. As a company whose purpose is to contribute to the greater good of society, charitable giving is at the heart of what we do. We know that £1,000 can make a huge difference to the incredible work that charities do and we’re looking forward to seeing how this financial boost will change lives for the better.”
“Thanks to the support of our broker partners and customers, we’re helping to give much-needed funds to good causes through the Movement for Good Awards,” said Richard Coleman, managing director of Ecclesiastical Insurance. “We’re delighted to announce the first 250 winning charities, and there is still time to nominate a cause you care about to win £1,000. As part of the Benefact Group’s family of businesses, our charitable purpose makes us so much more than an insurance company. We’re proud of our reputation as one of the most trusted insurers in our markets, and of the positive impact we make on society, by giving back all of our available profits to churches, charities and other good causes.”
The organisers said a further 120 £1,000 grants will be given away in December and £500,000 will also be given in larger grants later this year.
