In a strategic move to strengthen its foothold in the UK and Ireland, Aon has officially completed its acquisition of Griffiths & Armour, a UK-based insurance broker.

Finalised on January 1, 2025, the deal integrates Griffiths & Armour into Aon’s operations under the new branding, "Griffiths & Armour, an Aon company".

The acquisition aligns with Aon’s strategic goal of regional expansion while leveraging Griffiths & Armour's established expertise in professional indemnity insurance and general insurance broking.

Aon UK CEO Jane Kielty highlighted the synergy created by the merger, noting that the integration of Griffiths & Armour's specialist capabilities with Aon's resources will provide enhanced solutions for clients across multiple sectors.

"We are delighted to welcome our new Griffiths & Armour colleagues to Aon following the completion of this acquisition. Griffiths & Armour is an outstanding business with an exceptional reputation in the market. Together we will focus on providing our clients with excellent, market-leading expertise and our complementary cultures and capabilities will create an unparalleled offering across the UK and Ireland,” said Kielty.

With over 200 employees, Griffiths & Armour has built a reputation for delivering client-focused risk management solutions. The firm will continue operating from its Liverpool headquarters at Princes Dock, alongside existing offices in Manchester, Dublin, and London.

According to Griffiths & Armour, the acquisition represents an opportunity to scale operations while maintaining its focus on client service and trust-based relationships.

Griffiths & Armour's chairman of the Professional Risks division, Carl Evans emphasised that the partnership will allow the firm to deliver innovative risk management strategies while securing favourable outcomes for clients and stakeholders.

"It will enable us to continue to deliver exceptional client service with an unwavering focus on securing the best outcomes for our clients, colleagues, and partners,” said Evans.

Matt Donnelly, chairman for General Insurance Division, underscored the long-term benefits of the collaboration.

“This collaboration enables us to enhance our offering, extend our reach, and build on the strong foundations we’ve developed in our long history, creating new opportunities as we continue to innovate and lead in a rapidly changing industry,” said Donnelly.

The acquisition also reflects ongoing industry trends where larger firms are consolidating expertise and resources to address evolving client demands and market complexities. Both Aon and Griffiths & Armour expect the integration process to deliver tangible benefits, including broader service capabilities and streamlined operations.

Griffiths & Armour will maintain its role in supporting clients across various industries, offering professional and business risk management solutions, while continuing its private client services.
