Aon plc has appointed Erlantz Urbieta (pictured above) as chief broking officer (CBO) for the EMEA region, effective immediately.

He will continue to oversee Aon's Commercial Risk operations in Spain during a transition period.

Urbieta takes over from Terence Williams, who has been named head of commercial risk for the APAC region.

With a tenure exceeding 25 years at Aon, Urbieta has held various leadership positions within the Spanish business. He has led areas including broking, carrier management, specialties, risk consulting, and claims. His experience spans property, casualty, and specialties lines.

In his new role, Urbieta will report jointly to Luca Tassarotti, head of commercial risk solutions EMEA, and Cynthia Beveridge, Aon's global chief broking officer.

Beveridge noted Williams' efforts in developing the broking function across the EMEA region and implementing the firm’s global broking strategy.

Wider expansion for Aon

Urbieta’s appointment follows another major leadership change for Aon in the EMEA region. In December, Steve Dando was appointed CEO of Aon's strategy and technology group for the region. His role focuses on integrating advanced technologies, including AI and analytics, into Aon's operations to enhance decision-making processes and client services.

August last year also saw the expansion of Aon’s EMEA transportation and logistics team, with the following appointments:

  • Jan Steven Kelder was named industry specialty leader for transportation and logistics, EMEA
  • Rutger van der Hoeven took on the roles of head of growth for transportation and logistics and head of commodity trade, EMEA
  • Tomas Winje was appointed head of cargo and logistics, EMEA

Last month, Aon also announced several leadership transitions, including the departure of Eric Andersen from his role as president.

Andersen now serves as a senior adviser to chief executive officer Greg Case, who will also assume the role of president. The transition period will continue until June 2026.

Aon also named Denise Perlman as chief executive officer of its North America Middle Market practice.

The global brokerage is also set to welcome John Neal, who will leave his role as CEO of Lloyd’s later this year to take on a senior position with the firm.
