Fenchurch Law has announced the addition of Abigail Smith to its London team.

Smith joined the firm earlier this month and brings extensive experience from her previous role as an associate in the financial services disputes and investigations team at Eversheds.

In her previous position, Smith focused on managing high-value and complex insurance disputes for policyholders, brokers, and large corporate clients. She has worked within the global legal insurance market, representing international brokers, firms and banks.

“We are very pleased to welcome Abigail to the team,” said Joanna Grant, managing partner at Fenchurch Law. “Her legal expertise will be invaluable to Fenchurch Law’s commitment in providing the highest quality insurance advice to both brokers and policyholders here in the UK, and across the globe.”

Meanwhile, commenting on her appointment, Smith stated: “I was attracted to Fenchurch Law initially by the firm’s excellent reputation within the legal insurance market, and unwavering commitment to levelling the playing field for policyholders in coverage disputes.”

Smith’s addition to the London team follows the appointments of Jessica Chappell and Isabel Becker to the firm’s coverage disputes team in London. Chappell was named senior associate, while Becker joined as a foreign qualified lawyer in the reinsurance and international risks team.

Last year, the insurance law firm shifted to an employee ownership model, allowing its employees to own up to 60% of its shares through an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). Fenchurch Law is one of the first within the UK legal sector to adopt this model.

The employee ownership model has already seen success in other sectors. Among those companies that have adopted a similar model include insurance broker Howden, retail group John Lewis and cosmetics giant Lush.
