More brokers in the UK are now “actively implementing” their climate-ready plans, according to Aviva’s latest Broker Barometer survey.
Conducted by Censuswide Research on behalf of the insurer, the poll involved 224 professional brokers of all job levels across Britain. It found that 27% are actively implementing net zero plans; the corresponding percentage in 2022 was 17%.
Here are the other findings from the Broker Barometer survey:
97% – actively interested in making their and their clients’ businesses more sustainable
33% – have committed to developing a net zero plan
31% – have developed a plan but have yet to implement
26% – brokers whose clients have asked for advice on carbon footprint reduction
Meanwhile, sustainable actions brokers have implemented include using more video calling and conferencing (33%); reducing travel or air travel (33%); making sure waste products are recycled or disposed of more safely (31%); removing single-use plastic (30%); and reusing material (29%).
“It’s fantastic to see that 10% more brokers have brought their net zero plans to life since our last survey,” Aviva UK & Ireland general insurance chief executive Adam Winslow said in an emailed release. “While this is an encouraging upward trend, we need to be mindful of those brokers who do not yet have an active plan and provide practical initiatives and training to support the uptake of implementation.
“Aviva wants the UK to be as climate-ready as possible as part of our ambition to be net zero in 17 years’ time, and we want to bring our broker partners with us on that journey. To help with this, we’re running a series of broker pilots using a proprietary app to help them identify the impact their business has on the environment and wider society, and to help them set realistic sustainability goals and measure progress against targets.”
The CEO added that everyone has to play a part in meeting the collective net zero climate goals.
“Brokers that are delivering guidance on becoming a net zero business, as well as their insurer partners, will want to be confident that they are leading by example,” Winslow said.
