HSB, a specialist engineering and technology insurer within Munich Re, has promoted Terry Dyson (pictured) to managing director of its engineering insurance business.
Dyson, who boasts over 35 years of experience in the insurance sector, stepped into the newly created role Tuesday under UK and Ireland chief executive Stephen Worrall. The appointment comes amid plans to evolve the engineering insurance unit to meet customers’ emerging needs.
The company aims to bolster its inspection services and core insurance products for equipment breakdown, construction, and computer and cyber. By focusing on a regional approach, Dyson’s leadership will enable HSB to better serve brokers, insurer partners, and managing general agents.
The goal is to facilitate more flexible trading relationships and deeper engagement with the firm’s specialist engineering experts. In his new capacity, Dyson will work to strengthen HSB’s value proposition.
Dyson’s career began with the National Vulcan Engineering Group. Over the years, he has held several senior positions across the sector, ranging from sales to strategic leadership functions. Dyson joined HSB in 2019 and was named commercial director in 2022.
“Terry’s promotion to managing director is a natural progression, reflecting his deep industry knowledge and respected leadership ability,” commented Worrall.
“His appointment will strengthen our market presence as a leading specialist insurer and risk solutions partner so we can gear up for the future and scale our business for continued growth.”
Dyson, meanwhile, recalled his career progression: “My journey in the insurance industry has been diverse, and I’ve had the privilege of working across multiple departments.
“I’m therefore honoured and excited to take on this new role at such a pivotal time for HSB, working alongside knowledgeable and experienced teams of dedicated and talented people.”
He added that customer feedback has been reflected in the positive changes being made by HSB.
