Top British law firm Mishcon de Reya – which has been busy representing business interruption test case intervenors Hiscox Action Group and Hospitality Insurance Group Action – has another high-profile case to handle.
Watchstone Group Plc, or what used to be known as Quindell, has not released a statement on the new proceedings yet, but records of the High Court’s Commercial Court list Mishcon de Reya LLP as the company’s legal representative in Watchstone Group Plc and another v. KPMG LLP.
The newly filed case, no further details on which were disclosed, is a Part 7 claim against KPMG involving general commercial contracts and arrangements. The other claimant is Quindell Business Process Services Limited.
KPMG was reprimanded and fined by accounting regulator Financial Reporting Council in 2018 over its audit of Quindell’s financial statements for the period ended December 31, 2013.
In August, Watchstone filed a separate and unrelated claim against another Big Four accounting firm. Represented by solicitors Dorsey & Whitney (Europe) LLP in that case, the insurance technology provider was seeking damages or equitable compensation of £63 million from PwC.
It was alleged that PwC unlawfully disclosed confidential information to the camp of Slater and Gordon UK, which at the time was acquiring Quindell’s professional services division.
