The Financial Services Ombudsman has published its latest data on complaints filed against banks, insurers and other financial businesses.
Among insurers,
Direct Line Group received the highest number of general insurance-related complaints during the first half of the year – 1,307.
Royal London Group topped the customers’ list of gripes about life insurance and pension with 193 complaints.
Meanwhile, Bank of Scotland had the highest number of complaints related to payment protection insurance (PPI) with 17,358 new cases.
The regulator said it received a total of 169,132 new cases in the first six months of 2016, up by 3% from the previous period.
PPI was still the most complained about financial product, making up 54% of the new cases. The number of complaints increased from 91,381 to 92,667.
“Although it’s a few years now since PPI complaints peaked, we have been receiving over 3,000 cases a week for six years running - despite wider expectations that numbers would fall,” chief ombudsman Caroline Wayman.
“And we’re continuing to deal with the issues and uncertainties around PPI which remain a significant challenge for everyone involved,” she added.
