Ken Norgrove, chief executive officer of UK & International at RSA Insurance, part of the Intact Group, has been appointed as the new deputy president of the Association of British Insurers (ABI). Norgrove assumes the role with immediate effect.
In his new capacity, Norgrove (pictured) will collaborate with ABI President Tim Bailey to engage with key stakeholders and serve as a leading voice for the insurance sector. He will also be a member of the ABI’s Consumer Committee and Appointments and Remuneration Committee.
Norgrove brings over 35 years of experience in the insurance industry and has played a pivotal role in leading some of RSA’s most significant ventures and business turnarounds.
He succeeds Clare Bousfield, former chief executive of retail and savings at M&G plc. Bousfield stepped down from her role at M&G last autumn but continued as the ABI’s deputy president while the ABI’s Investment Delivery Forum gained momentum. She will remain involved with the Forum in the future.
Baroness Nicky Morgan, chair of the ABI, welcomed Norgrove's appointment, noting that his experience will be valuable as the organisation enhances its focus on the commercial insurance sector. Morgan expressed appreciation for Bousfield's contributions, particularly her work with the Investment Delivery Forum.
Norgrove, reflecting on his new role, emphasised the importance of the insurance industry in supporting the economic health of the country. He stated that he looks forward to leveraging his experience at RSA, one of the UK’s largest commercial insurers, to assist the ABI and its stakeholders in navigating upcoming challenges and opportunities.
Norgrove’s career with RSA dates back to 1986, and over the years, he has been instrumental in several of the company's key initiatives, including its renewable energy business and global business model.
He has also served as CEO of RSA’s international operations, leading RSA Scandinavia to its best financial results in a decade and overseeing the successful turnaround of RSA Ireland from 2014 to 2019.
In addition to his role at RSA, Norgrove is a Chartered Insurance Director, Chartered Insurer, and a fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) in the UK. He has held several directorship positions across Europe and has served as president of both Insurance Ireland and the Insurance Institute of Ireland.
