QuestGates has announced the acquisition of the Brownsword Group, strengthening its presence in the UK insurance claims and loss adjusting sector.

The Manchester-based Brownsword Group, established in 1994, has developed expertise in providing intelligence solutions to insurers, including services such as surveillance, motor fraud, and theft investigations. Its approach combines advanced technology with traditional investigative techniques.

Chris Hall (pictured above), chief executive of QuestGates, commented on the acquisition, stating that the addition of the Brownsword Group enhances the company’s third-party services.

"We are delighted to welcome everyone at the Brownsword Group to the QuestGates family. Their niche, specialist expertise complements our existing third-party services and strengthens our capabilities in the insurance sector,” Hall said.

The Brownsword Group will retain its existing brand and operations, benefiting from the resources available through QuestGates.

This acquisition also aligns with QuestGates’ recent expansion efforts, which include the purchase of QCH Legal, now operating as QGLaw, and the consolidation of its Building Consultancy Services through prior acquisitions of Structural Surveys, Ramsay McMichael Consulting, and BTA.

QuestGates indicated that the acquisition will broaden its ability to deliver comprehensive claims-related solutions across the UK and Ireland. According to Hall, the move significantly increases QuestGates’ market share in third-party investigations and reinforces its position as a leading claims solutions provider in the region.

Last year, the loss adjusting specialist also bolstered its presence in the UK motor claims sector through the acquisition of Claims Management & Adjusting Ltd (CMA), a Kent-based business that has been handling specialist vehicle claims for nearly three decades.

“The addition of their expertise fits perfectly with our strategy and further boosts our existing specialist motor claims offering,” Hall said.

CMA marked QuestGates’ first acquisition of 2024. The deal was completed without external funding and aligns with the company’s previous swoops for motor-focused adjusters C&S, TSS, and All UK.
