Independent specialist re/insurance broker Miller has announced the appointment of Gary Newlyn (pictured above) as head of social housing & public sector.
Newlyn joins from JM Glendinning, where he established and led the firm’s Community Risk Solutions business as managing director, supporting businesses and non-profit organisations.
Before JM Glendinning, he served as national housing manager at Zurich Municipal, overseeing the national social housing sales and account management team.
In his new role, Newlyn will join Miller’s team of infrastructure specialists within its new specialist housing division. His focus will be on further developing Miller’s offerings in the social housing sector.
As part of the appointment, Newlyn will join the infrastructure team and report to Pauline Goreham, head of UK construction at Miller.
Goreham commented on the appointment, stating that Newlyn's extensive experience with some of the largest social housing providers in the UK would benefit the team.
“The social housing sector has a critical role to play in solving the housing crisis, and there is a huge opportunity to provide additional risk and insurance support that can further enable this. With Gary on board, I look forward to us further challenging the current status quo, raising standards, and strengthening our offering to the benefit of the sector, insurers and our clients,” Goreham said.
Newlyn also expressed his enthusiasm for joining Miller, citing the opportunity to utilise his nearly 15 years of experience in the sector.
“Miller has the insurance market relationships and capability to create a true challenger in the industry and offer real value in an area that our economy and country rely on. The historic conventions of procuring and arranging insurance, coupled with tricky market conditions, have traditionally constrained the insurance solutions which these organisations receive. Being able to strengthen the foundations Miller has already built in the sector and add greater value is hugely exciting,” Newlyn said.
Elsewhere, Miller has also announced the appointment of three new hires in its Solicitors’ Professional Indemnity (PI) team, with Calum MacLean, Chris Jones, and Tom Davies joining the team.
