Global specialist insurer
Hiscox has announced two new appointments including that of a returning London executive who will take up another leadership post.
The company said one of its most experienced underwriters, Damien Smith, is heading back to London after six years in Bermuda to become head of specialty for Hiscox Re.
Smith is replaced by Adam Szakmary, the newly named director of underwriting for Hiscox Insurance Company Bermuda. He will be responsible for underwriting activities on the island including the internal reinsurance for the group.
Szakmary starts in his new role in October, reporting to incoming Hiscox Re CEO Mike Krefta. He will also join the Hiscox Re executive team, the underwriting leadership team and the board of Hiscox Insurance Company Bermuda.
“His expertise in building businesses and in specialty underwriting will be invaluable as we continue to develop our reinsurance offering,” Krefta said.
Szakmary joins from
Sompo International’s asset management platform, Blue Capital Management Limited. He initially joined Montpelier Re, the former parent company of Blue Capital, in a terrorism underwriting and risk analytics role.
