Trade credit is a rapidly expanding growth area for UK insurance brokers and now one brokerage giant is looking to seize on its momentum – with a swoop on a major rival.

Gallagher has today announced the appointment of Daniel Stewart (pictured) to head up its trade credit practice in Manchester, reporting to Tim Fisher, UK managing director of trade credit and surety. Stewart makes the leap across from Marsh where he had been national practice leader for trade credit responsible for the Midlands, North and Scotland.

“Joining Gallagher’s talented trade credit team is a pleasure, particularly in today’s economic and political climate, when clients need specialist support and advice to navigate the shifting challenges they face,” he said. “I look forward to leading the Manchester team, and working closely with all my new colleagues, as we strengthen our position in the North and provide vital trade credit support, not only for clients based there but throughout the wider Gallagher network.”

His appointment follows on from the arrivals of Colin Cunningham and Rachel Smailes also at the Manchester office this summer. Gallagher sees strong prospects for the trade credit sector on the back of 20% organic growth across the UK niche.

“We are determined to attract and retain the best talent and I’m excited to see how our Northern footprint will grow under Daniel’s guidance, supported by Rachel, Colin and the rest of the team,” said Fisher. “Daniel’s detailed knowledge of trade credit insurance and business development skills place him well to lead our Manchester hub in catering for the needs of our growing base of clients across the North - from smaller UK businesses to multinationals demanding innovative global solutions.”

Gallagher’s trade credit & surety practice has teams based in Manchester, Birmingham, Brierley Hill, Swindon and London.
