Swinton Insurance’s high-street branches in Norfolk and Suffolk are here to stay.
Earlier this year Swinton said it was closing branches as 90% of its customers now buy insurance over the phone or online instead of going to the physical offices. Now, however, a report by
Eastern Daily Press said the insurer has confirmed it is not shutting down its high-street branches in Norwich, Ipswich, King’s Lynn, Great Yarmouth, and Lowestoft.
“We are reshaping our distribution model to ensure that we continue to meet the changing needs of our customers in an effective and efficient way,” Swinton chief executive Gilles Normand was quoted as saying last April.
When Swinton announced it was to review which branches to keep amid evolving customer preferences, Normand said: “While branches continue to be an important part of our multi-channel business model, we need to ensure that we can interact with customers whenever, and however, they choose.”
The plan was to close 84 branches, which would see about 900 roles slashed by the end of 2017. Swinton, according to a
Reuters report, said affected staff will be deployed into other parts of the business where possible.
