CII announces "first"

There have been plenty of “firsts” for the insurance industry since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic – and now the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) is set for one of its own.

The industry body has made its 2019 annual report available online – and is set to hold its first virtual AGM in October.

The move marks the first time in its 108-year history that the meeting will take place online – it will be held at 2pm on October 08. Members will be sent details on how to take part in the AGM during August, and are set to have the chance to ask questions of the institute’s first independent chair Dr Helen Phillips, as well as CEO Sian Fisher, incoming president Julie Page and current CII president Nick Turner.

“Last year members voted to modernise our governance practices, including allowing them to attend our AGMs virtually, casting their votes and asking questions live from wherever they may be,” said Turner.

“I look forward to members from across the UK and around the world joining the meeting on October 08.”

Fisher added that the CII had responded quickly to the challenges of COVID-19 and was always thinking of the safety of its members.

“This virtual AGM is another way of allowing us to connect with all our members, ensures they remain at the heart of our decision making and reduces the risk of spreading the coronavirus,” she said.
