Allianz Legal Protection (ALP) has entered into a new underwriting partnership with Lexelle Ltd to support its motor legal expenses insurance (LEI) products.
Lexelle, a provider of ancillary insurance products, will work with ALP to expand the reach of its LEI offerings. The collaboration is intended to combine Lexelle’s distribution network with ALP’s experience in legal expenses insurance underwriting.
Dennis Langley, managing director at Lexelle, said Allianz’s underwriting capabilities and service approach would help the firm develop and enhance its products and schemes. He said Lexelle sees alignment between its own service values and those of Allianz.
Motor legal expenses insurance (LEI) is a key component of the UK’s motor insurance market, designed to cover the costs of legal representation in the event of an accident or dispute.
LEI products provide policyholders with access to legal services for issues such as claims disputes, personal injury claims, and recovery of uninsured losses. In recent years, motor LEI has become increasingly popular as an additional benefit for motor insurance policies, with brokers offering it as an optional extra to enhance customer protection.
According to a 2024 report by the Association of British Insurers (ABI), nearly 10 million vehicles in the UK are now covered by some form of motor LEI. The growth in popularity has been driven by heightened awareness of the potential legal costs involved in accidents, as well as the rise in claims for uninsured and underinsured motorists.
With increasing demand for additional coverages such as motor LEI, insurers are working to meet customer expectations by providing more comprehensive and accessible legal services.
