The current young broker ambassadors of the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) are assuming a more formal role as members of a newly created committee within the trade body.
Tasked to advise BIBA’s main board on issues faced by professionals aged 35 and under, the National Young Broker committee was formed as part of the association’s diversity and inclusion push. It will sit alongside other BIBA committees and advisory boards.
“I’ve always enjoyed being involved with BIBA from a Young Broker standpoint,” noted committee chair Courtney Barnes. “This new committee will not only allow the younger voices of the industry to be heard but will also help us learn from those who have established themselves within the industry.”
According to BIBA, a mentor from the main board will be offered to the Young Brokers. The goal is to bridge the gap between those who are just starting out and their more experienced peers.
Lifting the lid on the development, BIBA chief executive Steve White said: “It is now more important than ever to listen to the younger professionals within the industry. I am looking forward to having another perspective on key industry issues to help inform BIBA’s strategic direction in the future.
“The board and I hope that the mentor/mentee relationship will work as a reverse mentoring opportunity and something that we can all learn from.”
