The Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) has appointed long-time Aviva executive Tom Gardiner as the new chair of its technical board.

Gardiner, Aviva’s head of fraud, takes the post from Richard Davies, who will remain on the technical board of the IFB, a non-profit company established in 2006 to lead the insurance industry's collective fight against fraud.

"I'm very pleased to have the opportunity to continue to work closely with the IFB in this role,” Gardiner said. “And I look forward to the Technical Board helping the IFB deliver its strategy for the industry at such an important and exciting time.”

IFB technical board director Ben Fletcher said Gardiner will be supporting the delivery of key milestones, which includes supporting the implementation of the new IFB strategic direction.

“The Technical Board is an integral part of the IFB and the members play a key role in determining the direction of the IFB,” he said.

Formed in 2011, the IFB technical board is composed of leading fraud experts representing IFB members from across the industry.

Its role is to advise and assist the development of counter-fraud products and initiatives of the IFB, which serves as a central hub for sharing insurance fraud data and intelligence.

Gardiner brings to the IFB his 25 years of experience in claims and fraud management at Aviva, where he also served as heads of claims fraud, risk, governance, loss prevention and bodily injury claims.

He has been involved in the IFB even before he joined its technical board in 2015.
