Late last year former Aviva Insurance Ireland CEO John Quinlan was reported to be on leave for undisclosed reasons. At the time, Aviva’s then group chief operations and IT officer Nick Amin was tapped to take over Quinlan’s duties temporarily.
The arrival of O’Rourke on September 01 will coincide with Amin’s move to the position of Aviva Group’s interim chief operating officer.
“I am very excited to be joining Aviva Insurance Ireland and becoming part of the company with the most substantial heritage in the Irish insurance market,” commented the incoming interim CEO, whose credentials include nearly 27 years spent at AIG.
“I have always received very positive feedback about working at Aviva from both current and former employees. I look forward to experiencing this myself by getting to know the team and starting a new and exciting challenge.”
Aviva Insurance Ireland chair Michael Shaw described O’Rourke as a well-respected leader in both the Irish and international general insurance markets who he believes will be instrumental in ensuring that Aviva continues to thrive in Ireland.
Meanwhile details surrounding Quinlan’s exit from the company remain scant. Last week The Irish Times reported that legal proceedings have been launched by the ex-boss against Aviva, with neither camp commenting on the case.
