BMS Group has announced that Jean-Jacques Henchoz (pictured above) will assume the role of chairman of the board effective May 1.
The appointment comes as the insurance and reinsurance broker continues its international expansion following a series of recent acquisitions.
Henchoz most recently served as CEO and chairman of the executive board at Hannover Re. He previously held leadership positions at Swiss Re for over two decades. During his tenure at Hannover Re, the firm achieved double-digit earnings growth and increased its market capitalization, leading to its inclusion in Germany's DAX-Index.
Henchoz’s appointment follows a period of expansion for BMS. The firm has made several acquisitions in the past year as part of its growth strategy. These include the purchase of Spanish broker Rasher and its subsidiaries in Latin America.
In December 2024, BMS also completed the acquisition of David Roberts & Partners, a UK-based brokerage. Earlier in the same year, the group acquired UAE specialist broker Berns Brett Masaood.
BMS Group CEO Nick Cook said that Henchoz’s industry experience and leadership background are expected to support the company’s continued growth.

Outside of this expansion, BMS Re also recently grew its London reinsurance team with the appointments of Jonathan Hughes and Martin Bartell to its non-marine insurance division.
The firm has appointed Hughes as managing director of non-marine reinsurance, leveraging his 30-year industry career including positions at Guy Carpenter, Axis and Aon, where he most recently led retro broking operations.
Bartell has been appointed director in non-marine reinsurance. He brings nearly four decades of market experience, dating back to 1986 at Alexander Howden, followed by positions at Benfield, Gallagher Re and Aon, with specialized expertise in UK specialty and retro placements developed over the past 10 years.
