The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has welcomed PartnerRe, a global reinsurance provider, as its newest member, adding to the more than 300 firms represented by the trade body in the United Kingdom’s insurance and long-term savings sector.
PartnerRe, which operates across life and health, property and casualty, and specialty lines, joins the ABI at a time when insurers and reinsurers continue to navigate complex regulatory, demographic, and financial challenges.
The company’s life and health division supports leading UK insurers with both individual and group protection, offering reinsurance solutions informed by its experience in international markets. It also provides longevity risk transfer and financial reinsurance to clients globally.
"We look forward to working with the ABI, and our fellow members to complement the insights and contributions of its other insurance professionals," said Bernie Hamilton, PartnerRe’s head of UK & Ireland, life and health. He said that PartnerRe values the opportunity to collaborate with peers and support the sector’s ongoing evolution.
The ABI engages with HM Treasury, regulatory bodies such as the Financial Conduct Authority, and a range of consumer and third-sector organizations. Its core function is to represent the collective interests of the insurance industry in policy discussions and public affairs, and to help improve understanding of insurance among consumers and stakeholders.
Dr. Yvonne Braun, ABI director of policy, long-term savings and health and protection, said PartnerRe’s approach to reinsurance and risk management aligns with the ABI’s work in maintaining a stable and responsive insurance sector.
"[We] are confident that their expertise will support our collective goal to protect and build a thriving economy and society,” said Braun.
With this membership, PartnerRe positions itself within a network of firms contributing to regulatory dialogue, market development, and long-term planning in the UK insurance landscape. The addition comes as reinsurance continues to play a central role in helping insurers manage risk and align capital to long-term business goals.
