Aspen Insurance Holdings has announced the appointments of Christian Dunleavy (pictured above) as a director and Michael Lagler as a non-executive director, effective March 17.
Dunleavy currently serves as group president and CEO of Aspen Bermuda Limited, overseeing the company’s underwriting strategy, claims, and business development. He has more than 25 years of experience in the reinsurance sector and joined Aspen in 2015 as global head of property cat reinsurance. He was promoted to group chief underwriting officer in 2022.
Lagler is a private equity associate at Apollo Global Management, where he focuses on private equity investments in insurance and financial services. Based in London, he previously worked in investment banking at Perella Weinberg Partners, specializing in financial institutions and mergers and acquisitions.

The expansion of its board follows a period of financial growth for Aspen Insurance, with the group recording a net income available to ordinary shareholders of US$235 million, with an operating income of US$145 million in the fourth quarter of 2024.
For the full year 2024, net income available to ordinary shareholders reached US$431 million, while operating income totaled US$433 million. The company’s operating return on average equity stood at 19.4%, with an adjusted combined ratio of 86.8%.
Group CEO Cloutier also made headlines in December as he was elected chairman of the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) for the 2025-2026 term. Cloutier succeeds Pina Albo, chief executive of Hamilton Insurance Group, in the role.
