A financial services veteran with three decades of experience in the Australian and New Zealand markets has been appointed to the IAG board and will take up chairmanship of the insurance giant’s NZ business.
Simon Allen will join the IAG board as independent non-executive director and will also become chairman of IAG’s wholly owned subsidiary, IAG New Zealand, where he has been a non-executive director since September 2015.
IAG chairman Elizabeth Bryan said Allen brings to the board extensive financial expertise as well as practical skills gained over many years as a CEO in New Zealand.
Allen “will provide valuable insights and knowledge into financial and governance requirements in New Zealand, which represents more than 20% of IAG’s business,” Bryan said.
Allen was chief executive of investment bank BZW/ABN AMRO in New Zealand for 21 years and the inaugural chair of NZX and of the Financial Markets Authority. He currently chairs Crown Infrastructure Partners and The New Zealand Refining Company. He is also a trustee of the New Zealand Antarctic Heritage Trust.
