In a move aimed at enhancing on-road safety, AMI Insurance and Vehicle Testing New Zealand (VTNZ) have announced a new partnership offering complimentary roadside assistance to newly licenced drivers.
The initiative, launched on Friday, provides one year of free AMI Roadside Rescue service to all drivers who pass their restricted or full New Zealand practical driving test at any VTNZ outlet nationwide. The offer extends to drivers who have sat their licence during the past 12 months.
Successful candidates will receive a congratulations pack with information on how to redeem the free service, which includes 24/7 nationwide assistance for breakdowns, flat tyres, dead batteries, and other roadside emergencies.
“Given our shared commitment to driver and vehicle safety, we are delighted to partner with VTNZ to welcome a whole new generation of newly licenced drivers to our roads,” said Dean MacGregor (pictured), AMI’s executive general manager of supply chain and hub services.
He further acknowledged the challenges faced by new drivers: “We know that those early months behind the wheel or in a new country can be nerve-wracking, so we’re pleased to be able to offer new drivers the confidence of knowing that if something happens, AMI Roadside Rescue is just around the corner.”
Greg O’Connor, VTNZ country manager, highlighted the significance of the partnership. “It is exciting to launch a partnership that celebrates driving safety and also rewards drivers for passing their test,” he said.
AMI Roadside Rescue provides 24/7 nationwide assistance to all New Zealanders, regardless of whether they hold an AMI insurance policy. The service includes unlimited callouts for incidents such as flat tyres, battery issues, fuel shortages, and mechanical or electrical failures. Coverage extends to the driver, their vehicle, and any authorised person operating the vehicle.
The news release noted that the partnership coincides with AMI’s nationwide “On Your Side” television campaign.
