Property and specialty re/insurer IQUW has announced three new appointments to its energy team, bolstering its underwriting, claims, and engineering capabilities.
The additions include Chris Touhey as senior underwriter, energy (pictured above, middle); Darren Stewart (pictured above, left) as head of marine, energy, and aviation claims; and Darryl Krobel (pictured above, right) as MEA engineer.
The appointments aim to enhance IQUW’s focus on upstream and midstream business, including exploration, production, and related operational risks. Touhey, Krobel, and Stewart will operate from IQUW's London office, supporting brokers and insureds with technical expertise.
Touhey, who joined this month, brings 25 years of experience in the London market and Lloyd’s, including lead Energy underwriting roles. His career includes over 15 years at Liberty Specialty Markets, where he most recently served as head of offshore energy, as well as positions at Markel and Brit.
Krobel, who joined in December, has 20 years of engineering experience in the oil and gas industry, including roles at Octavia Energy and Sasol, a chemical manufacturing firm. He specializes in reservoir, exploration, and petroleum engineering.
Stewart, who joined in November, previously worked at Hiscox and Canopius Group, where he served as deputy head of short tail claims – energy, marine and engineering. He reports to Gavin Williams, head of claims, while Touhey and Krobel report to David Message, lead underwriter, energy.
Message said the appointments enhance IQUW’s ability to provide risk analysis and technical underwriting expertise.
“By adding Chris, Darren, and Darryl to the team we further enhance our risk analysis capabilities and technical underwriting expertise, making IQUW a go to lead energy market,” Message said.
Williams highlighted IQUW's approach of integrating data and human expertise, noting that the new hires align with the company’s goals.
“Chris, Darryl, and Darren will be great proponents of this ethos, as we look to grow our Energy market offering, maintain the highest standards of service, and deliver value to our brokers and partners,” Williams said.
