After suffering a crippling cyberattack, the Canadian manufacturer behind the Ski-Doo line of snowmobiles is now facing a new crisis as the perpetrators of the attack have uploaded the stolen data on the dark web.
Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) said in a release earlier this week that it has confirmed that information on “certain” employees and suppliers was leaked by the hackers.
“While the investigation is still ongoing, the evidence collected so far allows BRP to believe that the impact of this incident from a data privacy perspective should be limited,” the company said in a statement.
The statement comes two weeks after the company was impacted by a cyberattack incident. The incident was so crippling that BRP had to temporarily halt operations, only resuming this week.
BRP also said that it has contacted the “very few” employees who may have been impacted by the cyberattack. The manufacturer has made “appropriate resources” available to those affected, including credit monitoring services.
“Based on the current status of its investigation, BRP also believes that the compromised information relating to certain of its suppliers is limited in quantity and sensitivity, and is in the process of contacting them,” BRP said.
IT World Canada has reported that the RansomEXX ransomware gang is believed to be one responsible for the cyberattack on BRP, citing the Hackfest Facebook page which said that the gang uploaded almost 30 GB of data. The uploaded data included information on passports, contracts, as well as project and partner data.
