Property restoration company First Onsite Property Restoration has released the first leg of its weather and property survey, revealing Canadians’ biggest disaster and severe weather fears.
First Onsite’s study surveyed more than 1,500 Canadians. Regarding threats to property during severe weather events, 79% of the respondents worry about personal or family safety, 72% about the cost of major renovations and repairs, and 69% about the loss of valuables and personal items.
Other threats relate to the level of disaster preparedness, the need to leave, the development of mould, and the level of insurance coverage.

First onsite senior vice president Jim Mandeville said: “People are aware that storms aren’t acting like they used to, and we are seeing an increase in all types of property damage from weather events.
“The increased occurrence and intensity of catastrophic weather events is a constant driver for homeowners, businesses, and communities to be more resilient and better prepared for potential threats.
“With the right planning and resources in place, businesses and residents can be better prepared to respond to property emergencies.”
