Ontario expands disaster relief program coverage for flooded communities

Catastrophe & Flood

By Lyle Adriano

Still recovering from flooding last spring, the provincial government of Ontario has expanded its disaster recovery assistance program, increasing the area covered by the program to cover more affected properties.

The decision comes after the government received feedback from residents and municipalities affected by flooding. Thanks to the expansion of areas covered, more residents of Lanark County are eligible for financial support. An official release by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing specified that the communities of Beckwith, Carleton Place and Mississippi Mills can now claim for the relief funding.

The program can offer compensation for damage done to primary residences, small businesses, and non-profit organizations for people who do not have their own insurance.

CBC News reported that the deadline to submit claims is September 26, 2019.
