The provincial government of British Columbia is offering financial assistance to residents of the Chilcotin area affected by flooding earlier this month.
The funding will be made available to homeowners, small business owners, residential tenants, farmers, charitable organizations, and local governments that were unable to claim on insurance for disaster-related losses.
CBC News reported that the province will cover about 80% of the amount of total eligible damage that is over $1,000, up to a maximum of $300,000. Residents have until October 15, 2019 to submit an application to Emergency Management BC for the funding.
Homeowners and residential tenants applying for the disaster assistance must prove that their property is their principal residence. Small business owners also need to prove that their business is their primary source of income before they can claim on the fund.
Notably, the loss of seasonal or recreational property – which includes hot tubs, patios, pools, garden tools, landscaping and luxury items – will not be covered by the government fund.
