The driverless car may promise a future without accidents, but finding a proper premium point to underwrite tomorrow’s vehicles will be anything but easy, says one reader.

The article, ‘Driverless car coverage – forget driver history’ raised more questions, especially on how human beings will be able to interact with the vehicles when something does go wrong.

“I believe before anyone figures out how to rate premium on driverless cars, they need to do some serious testing and share the history,” writes one reader, Jeanie. “The questions are quite apparent: can the driver take over the reins? What about mechanical failure for the car to drive itself? If we lived in a perfect world, the answer would be easy.”

The article was spurred by a recent Insurance Business poll which asked brokers what the most important factor should be in determining premium point on driverless cars.
