Intact Financial Corporation has announced that Wealthsimple co-founder and CEO Michael Katchen has joined its board of directors.
The appointment is effective July 25, 2022.
Recognized as an Industry Mover by Financial Post, a Change Agent by Canadian Business Magazine, and one of Toronto’s 50 most influential people by Toronto Life, Katchen is a leading figure in fintech. He is the founder of Wealthsimple – an online investment management service with more than $15 billion in assets under management (as of November 2021). In addition to the accolades above, he has received the Entrepreneur of the Year award from Ernst & Young, Canadian Startup Awards, and Techvibes, as well as being named one of Canada’s “Top 40 Under 40.”

Young added that Katchen is a prominent entrepreneur and innovator who is “dedicated to reinventing Canada’s financial services industry,” and that he is passionate about helping people achieve financial freedom through technology.
In early July, RSA Insurance Group – the UK and Ireland subsidiary of Intact – completed its previously-announced sale of its shareholding in RSA Middle East to National Life & General Insurance Company. RSA Middle East is a joint venture of RSA Insurance with a majority shareholding and regional shareholders in the Middle East.
