Hub International has lost one of its preeminent executives with the passing away of David Russell Turner, who served as vice president of business risk at the company.

Turner passed away at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto on January 06, 2021; he was 52.

He is survived by his mother, Geills McCrae Turner (née Kilgour), his brothers Michael and Andrew (Leslie), his sister Elizabeth, his children Dylan and Olivia, as well as his nieces and nephews.

A Montreal native, Turner later moved to Toronto, where he attended Upper Canada College (UCC). He then transferred to the University of Western Ontario.

After graduating, Turner began his career in insurance. He spent the first 13 years of his professional career at Marsh Canada, then later joined Integro Canada. Afterwards, he became the president of his own consulting company, Turner Risk Consulting from 2009 to 2012. While operating his risk consultancy, Turner was tapped to serve as director of risk and corporate development at renewable energy company AMP Solar Group, and as senior advisor at merchant banking firm Bridgepoint Group.

Turner eventually joined Hub International in 2012, where he served as vice president for business risk for more than eight years.

He is most fondly remembered as the creator of an annual drop-in Christmas party event in Toronto, which is open to all locals. Said party celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.

Turner’s family has extended its thanks to the doctors and nurses at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre for their round-the-clock care of David during his final weeks. The family has also requested that in lieu of flowers, Turner’s friends and acquaintances should consider making a donation in his name to the Canadian Neuroendocrine Tumour Society.
