Aviva Canada, which last week announced plans to acquire the motor and home insurance business of RBC Insurance, has appointed Leclerc Insurance and Financial Services as Managing General Agent (MGA) in Quebec for its specialty personal lines business underwritten by Elite Insurance Company of Canada.
As of April 1, Leclerc will be the official distributor of Aviva’s recreational insurance products, including motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs, mobile homes, as well as RVs and trailers. NautiMax will continue to manage Aviva’s watercraft program, which brokers will be able to access through their Leclerc contract, the company said.
President of Leclerc Insurance and Financial Services, Lucie Frechette said, “The addition of leisure vehicles and mobile homes to the Leclerc product offering for brokers is a natural fit for Leclerc, and we look forward to continue working with brokers to manage and grow their portfolios.”
Leclerc Insurance was founded in 1953 and, over 30 years ago, was the first to develop a specialized insurance program for recreational vehicles. Today, Leclerc has over 60 employees and distributes its products to more than 600 brokers across the province of Quebec.
Last week, Aviva said it will acquire RBC General Insurance Company, the home and motor insurance business of RBC Insurance, for £281m.
The deal provides Aviva Canada with an additional distribution channel to complement its 1500 independent broker partners. And under the deal Aviva Canada will also enter into an exclusive 15-year strategic agreement with RBC Insurance to provide a full range of general insurance products to existing and future RBC customers. Around 575 employees from RBC Insurance that handle underwriting, claims and other activities will become part of Aviva.
