The latest poll question on Insurance Business asked Ontario brokers if they felt a Liberal majority government would benefit the industry – and the results were surprising.
It was a definite split between those who felt it would absolutely benefit, as opposed to those who felt it would be detrimental – with those on the detrimental size just edging out those eager to work with the Kathleen Wynne Liberals.
Perhaps further reflecting the mix of emotions among brokers, it was an even split between those who felt it would be the same relationship as with the previous minority Liberal government, and those who felt the relationship would hinge on lobbying by the IBAO and IBC.
Following the election, both the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario and Insurance Bureau of Canada issued statements that they were looking forward to working with the Wynne Liberals, and were eager to get back on track with Bill 171 for its early passage in the legislature.
“We have a new Liberal government and a Premier with a clear mandate,” IBC President and CEO Don Forgeron told the Economic Club of Canada. “As the association representing Ontario’s auto insurers, we welcome this fresh start. It’s time to roll up our sleeves and get down to work.”
IBAO CEO Randy Carroll was first out of the gate to congratulate Wynne on her victory.
“IBAO wishes to also salute all parties and candidates for their efforts during the campaign,” said Carroll. “Now that the election is over, the MPPs can return to the legislature and finish the important work they started on auto fraud reforms.”
