Nick is the Head of Professional Indemnity for Newline Australia, joining in March 2024 and establishing Newline’s presence in the Sydney market.
He has 34 years of experience in the insurance sector, commencing with the former Tasmanian Government Insurance Office in 1991, underwriting commercial property and general liability business.
In 1995, Nick joined GIO Australia as a Business Insurance Underwriter, initially establishing a new portfolio of commercial risks on the North-West coast of Tasmania, before transferring to Bathurst in New South Wales (NSW) to develop an existing portfolio of commercial, general liability and rural business.
Nick moved to Sydney in 1999 to join Fortis Australia and was responsible for the development of intermediated business in NSW for the commercial insurance division.
Nick specialised in Financial Lines in 2000 with Allianz focusing on Professional Indemnity, Directors’ & Officers’ and associated classes for commercial and corporate risks. Joining Assetinsure in 2003, Nick gained experienced assisting to establish a new APRA regulated insurer in the Australian Professional Indemnity market. Business was focused on middle-market and corporate segments with international brokers and local specialist brokers.
In 2014, Nick joined Catlin prior to acquisitions by XL and AXA in 2015 and 2018 respectively. During this time Nick was appointed to the role of Product Leader – Professional Indemnity for XL Catlin and AXA XL in Australia before moving on in 2022. Prior to joining Newline in 2024, Nick was National Manager – Professional Risks for an Australian based MGA.
Nick holds a Bachelor of Business (Insurance) and is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF). Since 2000, he has been a member of the Australian Professional Indemnity Group (APIG) and was a committee member of the NSW Chapter of APIG between 2008 and 2010.
More recently, Nick has completed a Graduate Diploma in Applied Risk Management and Corporate Governance with the Australian Institute of Corporate Governance.
