Cover Genius has broadened its collaboration with Australian travel provider Luxury Escapes to roll out an upgraded travel protection product for customers in Australia, New Zealand, and international markets.

The new offering, known as Cancellation Protection, enables travellers to claim full refunds in a range of scenarios that may interrupt or prevent travel. It complements existing coverage options previously available to customers in select markets.

The product is now accessible across multiple booking channels, including the Luxury Escapes mobile app, website, and customer service lines.

Cancellation Protection

The new offering is structured to provide full reimbursement for non-refundable travel expenses in cases such as illness, injury, severe weather, employment-related obligations, and other unexpected events.

The coverage is embedded into the booking process via Cover Genius’s platform, which also supports claims processing in multiple currencies.

Luxury Escapes CEO Adam Schwab said the integration aims to provide a seamless experience for customers.

“With the addition of Cancellation Protection which now also covers experiences, we’re offering even greater flexibility and protection to travellers, ensuring they can book with confidence, no matter their destination,” he said.

Cover Genius CEO Angus McDonald said consumer preferences are shifting away from standard insurance bundles. Therefore, aligning protection directly with the booking experience enables the firm to response more effectively to traveller expectations.

“We are proud to continue our strong partnership with Luxury Escapes, expanding our protection services to more regions as they continue to grow worldwide,” he said.

Young Australians prioritise travel

The announcement comes as young Australians still prioritise travel despite rising costs.

A survey from Zoom Travel Insurance reported that 72% of younger Australians view travel as an essential part of their lifestyle, even with rising living costs and currency pressures.

Similarly, Southern Cross Travel Insurance’s report highlighted that nearly half of Australians under 45 prioritise travel over long-term financial goals like homeownership. In contrast, many over 45s are reducing discretionary travel to provide financial support for family.

On the bright side, the latest Allianz Partners Travel Index revealed that a strong majority – 82% of respondents – indicated they would purchase travel insurance for upcoming trips. Key concerns included emergency medical costs, financial disruptions while travelling, and flight-related delays or cancellations.
