Car insurance startup Ride Protect has launched a new innovative rideshare insurance offering.

According to Startup Daily, Ride Protect was launched in November 2021 after CEO Jeremy Bennett found that up to a third of gig economy drivers had not told their insurer that they are part of a rideshare or food delivery service or are unaware that they need a specific “add-on” to their current insurance policy, leading to denied claims.

Now, the startup has launched a new comprehensive insurance policy that covers rideshare, food delivery, and private use. Therefore, consumers no longer need two separate policy types for their vehicle insurance.

“The policy also gives you access to cutting-edge technology that helps make your rideshare business safer and more profitable,” Bennett said.

The application process uses technology from uBind, which includes a seamless digital experience for rideshare drivers to apply online, enter their registration number, get a quote, and bind within 2 minutes.

Moreover, the uBind platform provides a customer portal enabling rideshare and delivery drivers to login and manage their policy, renew their policy online, make adjustments to add other drivers, and access their documents.

“Jeremy has identified a gap in the market and brought together a great insurance product backed by great technology to make it work exceptionally well,” said uBind CEO John Gamble.

The new rideshare insurance offering is fully integrated with 365 Roadside Assist and Mercurien's driver feedback app that encourages safer driving behaviour, not only keeping drivers safe but also reducing claims.

Commenting on teaming up with Ride Protect, uBind, and 365 Roadside Assist, Mercurien director Daniel Johnson said: “We worked closely with Jeremy to provide the best mix of technology from our partners uBind and 365 Roadside Assist, creating an integrated solution that fully realises Jeremy's vision. We've always embraced technology, and it's paid off for us.”

Rideshare and delivery drivers can apply online through the Ride Protect website.

Meanwhile, as an underwriting agency backed by HDI Global, Mercurien encourages brokers to get in touch to find out more about their commercial motor products.

“We've identified the gap in the market for group business that can't be processed in bulk.  So if you need a commercial motor solution that facilitates easy distribution and processing for [a] group, association, or scheme business that still maintains your brand, then call us,” Johnson said.
