Medibank has entered into a three-year partnership with the AFL Women’s (AFLW) league, establishing itself as an official health sponsor.
This collaboration reflects Medibank’s ongoing commitment to women’s health and its support for the advancement of women’s sports in Australia.
The partnership will focus on showcasing the achievements of AFLW athletes while addressing health-related challenges faced by female players and women across the country.
Medibank CEO David Koczkar highlighted the importance of this partnership in promoting both physical and mental health within the sporting community and beyond.
“Australia is a sporting nation, and we recognise the important role sport plays in promoting physical and mental wellbeing as well as connecting communities around the country,” he said.
He also noted that the partnership would work to challenge existing misconceptions and tackle the health issues affecting female athletes, with the goal of improving overall health outcomes for women.

AFLW general manager Emma Moore said the partnership would support the league’s ongoing efforts to prioritise the health and wellbeing of its players.
“The partnership with Medibank will help us deliver key initiatives and increase awareness, research, and support for specific health areas of the AFLW and its community,” she said.
The partnership was launched at Marvel Stadium, where AFLW athletes Erin Phillips and Moana Hope led a football clinic for young girls. The event was aimed at encouraging the next generation of athletes to pursue their potential within the sport.
Additionally, Medibank has partnered with La Trobe University through the Medibank Better Health Foundation to conduct research on sports injuries affecting women and girls in Australian football. This research will explore the impact of structured warm-up routines on reducing injuries.
The partnership also includes the ACL United campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the high rate of ACL injuries in women’s sports.
Meanwhile, Medibank’s ahm health insurance (ahm) has signed a sponsorship agreement with the National Pickleball League Australia (NPL) as pickleball gains traction worldwide due to its accessibility and appeal to a wide range of age groups and fitness levels.
The sponsorship aligns with the insurer’s objective to promote healthy lifestyles among its members.
ahm senior executive Sally Haydon highlighted the benefits of the partnership, stating that it provides ahm members with an enjoyable way to stay active.
“We believe this sport was built for our members, and this is the first step in bringing them on the pickleball journey,” she said.
The NPL anticipates significant growth in pickleball participation within Australia, forecasting that over a million Australians could take up the sport in the coming years.
