Emergence Insurance, an underwriting agency focused exclusively on providing cyber insurance solutions, has announced the appointment of Colin Pausey as chief operating officer (COO).
Pausey is an experienced insurance and cyber specialist with more than 40-years of legal and commercial experience. He joined Emergence on November 01, 2021, after a seven-year spell as a consultant with Sparke Helmore Lawyers, where he established a cyber insurance practice.
Before that, he spent almost a decade (2004-2013) managing underwriting agencies, including daily oversight of all major functions of the businesses, including underwriting and operational management of binding authorities. He was also a managing partner and then chair of partners in a national law firm.
New COO Pausey is no stranger to Emergence. In fact, he has been acting as an external legal advisor to the underwriting agency ever since its launch in 2014, and has offered his experience as a cyber law practitioner and insurance operations manager to help Emergence launch and revise its Cyber Event Protection Policy.
“Colin has made an integral contribution to the Emergence journey since the start, providing expertise and advice,” said Emergence founder and CEO Troy Filipcevic, adding that he was “super excited” the cyber veteran was officially joining the team.
“As we continue to build a team with deep expertise on cyber risk, Colin’s skillset and legal experience in dealing with cyber incidents over many years enhances our offering to brokers and their clients. Colin has been a great friend to all at Emergence and a mentor for me personally, so it’s brilliant to have him join the team.”
Meanwhile, Emergence was named Insurance Business’ Underwriting Agency of the Year in 2019 and was a finalist in that same category for the 2021 awards.
