ANZIIF unveils star-studded lineup for 2024 Claims Convention

The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) has revealed the speaker lineup for the 2024 AICLA/ANZIIF Claims Convention.

This event, jointly organised with the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters (AICLA), remains a significant gathering for insurance claims professionals across Australasia.

The convention will take place on Sept. 26 at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, focusing on the theme “Claims Under the Microscope – Driving Better Outcomes.”

The agenda will cover a broad array of topics pertinent to the industry, including the Federal Parliamentary Flood Inquiry, fire risks associated with lithium batteries, environmental claims, and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in claims processes.

Key speakers include:

  • Dr Daniel Mulino, chair of the Standing Committee on Economics in the Federal Parliament;
  • Emma Curtis, lead ombudsman for Insurance at the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA)
  • Kylie Macfarlane, chief operating officer for Climate Operations and Strategy at the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA)
  • Jillian Pancott, director of Forensic Accounting Services at Sedgwick
  • Tim Koeppler, executive adjuster for Property at Charles Taylor
  • Chris Bennett, head of virtual, motor, and fusion at Crawford & Company
  • Richard Gibson, national manager of supply chain and incident response at NTI
  • Bean Healey, senior underwriter, marine at AXA XL
  • Chris Kenyon-Edwards, associate at Burgoynes
  • Dr Rita Matulionyte, associate professor at Macquarie University Law School

Topics to be discussed include climate-related challenges, advances in marine insurance, and emerging risks such as arson claims.

ANZIIF CEO Katrina Shanks highlighted the importance of maintaining high standards in claims management.

“Quality claims handling continues to be the focus of legislators, regulators, and all industry participants. The attendance at this conference reflects the seriousness that the sector takes to continually raise industry standards and strive for good customer outcomes,” she said.

ANZIIF 2024 Group Life Seminar

ANZIIF is also preparing for its annual Group Life Seminar, scheduled for Sept. 3 at the Sheraton Grand Hyde Park, Sydney.

The seminar will feature discussions on the role of health and wellbeing platforms in life insurance and the use of artificial intelligence in detecting fraud.

Heather Gray, Lead Ombudsman for Superannuation at AFCA, will deliver insights on recent data and trends affecting the life insurance sector.
